Getting Screwed Out of Hostgator Affiliate Commissions?

We’re all pretty familiar with website hosting services and the affiliate programs that go along with them.  After all, if you’re going to make money online, you probably need to buy a hosting account.  Their affiliate commissions are usually pretty lucrative ($50+ per sale!), which is why you’ll see affiliate links and banners for hosting services on most blogs.  Hostgator and BlueHost are two of the more common ones.

I don’t heavily promote hosting at all – I have a couple links on my resources page, but beyond that, I’m not really working hard for hosting affiliate commissions.  Because I suspect many of you promote hosting either actively or passively (through banners, etc.), I thought I’d bring this finding to your attention, specifically if you promote Hostgator.

Not Reinvesting? You’re Killing Your Income Potential

With my January income report coming up later this week, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about something I don’t think I’ve ever explicitly discussed here before: reinvesting.  You often hear about “reinvesting” as it applies to large corporations.  For example, XYZ Manufacturing Inc. had a profit of $4 million in 2010 – instead of paying it out to its owners, the company reinvested the money by putting it toward additional research and development, to hopefully bring greater earnings in the future.

The same concept applies to us too – we can take our earnings, however large or small, and put it toward things that can help us expand our income potential.

Am I A Failure When It Comes to Earning Passive Income?

The vast majority of you are extremely friendly and supportive, and it’s something I am infinitely thankful for.  Occasionally, however, someone will criticize me, and sometimes it’ll be harsh.  I received such a comment recently, on my November income report blog post.

Instead of becoming defensive or feeling offended, I welcome this criticism.  In fact, while others may reply to such a comment and quietly bury it, I want to bring it to your attention and reply to it publicly, out in the open.

How I’m Going to Add $20k/Year to My Passive Income Portfolio (Niche Profit Course Review)

As the niche site duel continues, I’ve gotten to the point where, aside from adding periodic content and backlinks, the site has become a passive project for me.  I’ll still share my earnings in my monthly income reports and maybe another post here or there about new strategies I’m using, but the vast majority of my niche site’s configuration has already been publicized here for you to read.

I’m a huge fan of personal challenges, and I think it’s about time to layer another one on top of my already existing projects.  You can criticize me for juggling too many projects at once, but I’ve learned that this is how I keep it interesting and enjoyable for myself.  If I can still produce positive results, I’m not going to complain about it.

I really believe that this new challenge is going to do wonders for my passive income portfolio, as I continue to diversify it.  Let’s jump into the details.

My Blog and Passive Income Experiments Update [October '10]

It’s sad to see October come to an end, as November brings the day (the 13th) where I officially become a year older.  It’s once again time to recap how well I did in my quest for online passive income this past month.  October was more of a “passive” month than I would’ve preferred (though isn’t it always?), however there’s a lot on the horizon about which I’m pretty excited.

While I’m certainly not making enough money to quit my day job, I think people generally enjoy reading about others’ success and failure, so I’ve decided to share this information.

Let’s see how October turned out!

My Blog and Passive Income Experiments Update [September '10]

Goodbye September, hello October.  It’s once again time to recap how well I did in my quest for online passive income this past month.  September was yet again another busy month for me at my “real job,” but I still managed to cross some important things off of my to-do list.

In case you haven’t been following this blog for long,  I originally focused my monthly reports on my passive income income status only, but I’ve broadened the scope to include anything related to this blog.  While I’m certainly not making enough money to quit my day job, I think people generally enjoy reading about others’ success and failure, so I’ve decided to share this information.

Let’s see what September looked like.

Niche Site Duel – Update #1: Tackling A Super Competitive Niche

I caved and decided to take on Pat Flynn’s niche site duel that he’s doing with Tyrone Shum and a handful of other bloggers (see the niche site duel page).  I’m excited.  Reading about some of the other niche sites in the duel, it seems like most people are taking on some low- to mild-level competition niches, which I think is great.  In all honesty, it’s probably the smart thing to do.

I could do that, but I have an idea for a niche site within a super competitive niche that I’d like to tackle.  I wouldn’t normally bother with such high competition, however, in the spirit of the duel, I want to push myself and make it public so that I’m held accountable for working hard at it.

Keep reading and I’ll reveal the niche, the site, and my initial thoughts about how I’m going to approach it.

My Blog and Passive Income Experiments Update [August '10]

money printerFirst of all, sorry for the delay on this month’s update post – I realize we’re already 10 days into September!

With August in the books, it’s time to recap how well I did in my quest for online passive income this past month.  As a CPA/tax consultant, August is typically a very busy work month, because most extended tax returns (for partnerships and corporations) are due September 15th.  Therefore, this past month I spent the least amount of time on my passive income projects since I began tracking my progress a few months ago.

Here’s the crazy thing though: This was my best month to date. I spent hardly any time on my projects, yet the power of passive income made it possible for my earnings to grow without additional work.  Unfortunately, “not doing work” isn’t a sustainable way to grow.  I’m going to need to work hard if I want continued growth (and work really hard if I want to accelerate that growth).

Let’s see what happened in August…
