June 2010 Reading List

Believe it or not, we’re more than halfway through May, so I thought I’d get a head start on picking my books for June.  If you haven’t seen my reading list for May, you can check it out here.  As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve gotten a few emails from readers asking me about other books I recommend or am considering reading, so I decided I’m going to post a monthly reading list, which will contain the books that I plan to read during the upcoming month.

It looks like I’m not going to get through all of my May picks (5 books in a month was a pretty ambitious goal for me), so I’m only going to list three books for June.

1) Make Money Online: Roadmap of a Dot Com Mogul by John Chow

2) The Art of the Start by Guy Kawasaki

3) Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard by Chip and Dan Heath

As always, I strongly recommend reading The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss.  If you haven’t read this yet, I definitely think you should read it before any other book I mention here.

If you’ve read or are currently reading any of the books listed here, please share your comments.  I’d love to see what everyone else thinks about these books, especially before I read them.

May 2010 Reading List

The number one source of inspiration overlooked by most people looking to start a new muse/business (those who don’t have solid ideas yet) is incredibly simple: reading.  Reading a book (and it almost doesn’t matter what kind of book) is an incredible source of inspiration.  You’re basically funneling someone else’s ideas through your own brain, filtering and transforming them with your thoughts.  If you read books regularly, you understand what I’m talking about.

Because this site is based on a very popular book, I’ve gotten a few emails from readers asking me about other books I recommend or am considering reading.  Rather than post random book reviews (although I may still do this from time to time), I decided I’m going to post a monthly reading list, which will contain the books that I plan to read during the upcoming month.

My reading list will usually be pretty ambitious – I will list 5 to 10 books that I’d like to read during the month. However, I will probably not get to all of them.  I wouldn’t expect you to either.  Hopefully, this will give you some ideas if you’re looking for a new book to pick up.

1) Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion by Gary Vaynerchuk

2) Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry

3) Rework by Jason Fried and David Hansson

4) The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right by Atul Gawande

5) Making Ideas Happen: Overcoming the Obstacles Between Vision and Reality by Scott Belsky

I was considering copying and pasting a brief synopsis of each book, but then decided that you can easily head over to Amazon to read those (and get a lot more information than I can provide here).
