If You Use Google Reader…

You’ve probably heard this already, but because I have thousands of RSS subscribers on this blog, I feel somewhat obligated to put out a brief message about it.  Google Reader is going away effective July 1st.

What does this mean?  You need to move your subscriptions somewhere else if you don’t want to lose them! Right now, I am using Feedly.   It’s a cool-looking alternative to Google Reader, has more customization features, and a pretty robust mobile phone app.

Rather than reinvent the wheel here, I’ll just point you to an article on SEOmoz (now called “Moz”) that explains how to get your feeds off Google Reader and onto another service.  The article also reviews different RSS readers (a new one each week), ranking Feedly as #1.

If you want to subscribe to My 4-Hour Workweek via e-mail (so that you can all new blog posts sent to your e-mail – and I promise, you won’t get anything else!), you can put your e-mail address in the top bar at the very top of my blog’s homepage.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment here.  Otherwise, be sure to move your subscriptions sometime this month.

  1. Well, Feedly is great and I personally love Feedly but there are also other options out there like Pulse, the Old Reader and many more. It will always depend on what works for you because some have features that others don’t have.

Nice article, I must say. Saw this on the IM social networking site, Kingged.com where it has been shared.

  3. Hey Eric,

It’s a good thing that you’ve posted this very important information. I, for one, didn’t hear about Google Reader being cut of this coming July 1st. Well, I guess it’s time to find a new alternative though. I think I got to try Feedly since you’re using it now. Thanks for sharing this vital information. By the way, what’s happening to Google? It seems like they are closing their services one at a time.

It is weird how they seem to close many of their services after having them out for 5+ years. At the same time, they keep rolling out new ones periodically. I guess they are cutting out the things that don’t make them any money!
